Linus Pauling and the Nature of the Chemical Bond
Pauling fused quantum mechanics with chemistry in his 1939 book on the nature of the chemical bond, still cited today. He described electronegativity, resonance, and hybrid orbitals in usable form. He won two unshared Nobel Prizes, chemistry and peace, the latter for battling nuclear testing. His later vitamin C crusade remains contested ground..
